21 Days Prayer & Fasting

Show all

Join with us as we spend the next 21 days together in prayer

We believe it’s important at the beginning of the year to intentionally set our focus on God and meditate on His promises.

This 21 day period is designed to prioritise our relationship with God and focus on His truths. As we join in this together as a community we unify and set aside time to pray, fast and wait on God to renew our thoughts and restore our hope.

Take some time to think about what you might fast; Partial Fast - abstaining from specific kinds of food, or a certain meal, TV/ Social Media Fast, etc. Prayerfully choose something that works for you and that ultimately gives you time to draw closer to God.

“Fasting helps us to express, to deepen, and to confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain the Kingdom of God.” - Scot McKnight.

In summary, fasting is not about getting from God but it is about getting to God.

WHY PRAY?

The power of prayer deepens our dependence on God and sharpens our faith.

When we pray we choose to put everything in God’s hands knowing that His hand will show up in every aspect of our lives and in those around us.‍

We pray in confidence knowing that our prayers are powerful and can bring about change in any circumstance.

WHY FAST?

Fasting is a spiritual discipline, the purpose of which is training to become more like Jesus.

The motivation of our fasting is to draw closer to the heart of God. Fasting is a Christian discipline to break the power of the flesh in our life – our desires, sins, and cravings – and to feed on the Holy Spirit.

Creating a lifestyle of prayer

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed. Mark 1:35

Prayer is most effective when it isn’t something we do every now and then, but when it’s a lifestyle we cultivate. To understand how to have a lifestyle of prayer, we can look at the example Jesus gave during His life on earth.

HAVE A CERTAIN TIME

Jesus got up early in the morning to spend time with His Heavenly Father. Make a daily appointment with God, whether it’s first thing in the morning, at lunch, or in the evening, and faithfully keep it.

HAVE A CERTAIN PLACE

Jesus had a specific place He went to pray. Having a designated place to pray helps us remove distractions and frees us to worship and pray out loud.

HAVE A CERTAIN PLAN

When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He gave them a prayer outline. We call it “The Lord’s Prayer.” As we pray every day, our plans for our prayer time can vary, maybe including worship music, Bible reading, and quiet time to listen to God. It doesn’t always have to look the same; it just helps when we have a plan for connecting regularly with God.
